Byron Scott
Basketball Legend
Byron Scott is a three-time NBA Champion and a key figure in the Los Angeles Lakers’ legendary Showtime era. Drafted in 1983 and quickly traded to the Lakers, he became an essential part of a team that dominated the league throughout the 1980s, winning titles in 1985, 1987, and 1988. Over a 14-season career, Scott also played for the Indiana Pacers and Vancouver Grizzlies, finishing with over 14 points per game across more than 1,000 appearances.
Following his playing days, he found success on the sidelines, coaching teams like the New Jersey Nets—leading them to two NBA Finals—the New Orleans Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Lakers. In 2008, he was honored as NBA Coach of the Year.
Today, Byron remains connected to the game through mentorship and youth development, especially supporting young Filipino-American talent through FilAm Nation Select. He’s also a speaker and mentor, sharing his experience and insight with the next generation of athletes.
